Reminder: Join the PGC TODAY! Deadline is Oct. 31

Dear Neighbors,

The page below from PGC President Karna Candler was originally posted to the website on October 11. This is a reminder to encourage everyone who hasn’t joined the PGC yet for the 2012 year to please mail in your membership form and $40 dues TODAY! The membership deadline is October 31, and that is only 3 days from now. Don’t wait until you get busy with Halloween this weekend — please take a moment TODAY to join PGC, whether you are a returning member or a new one — we welcome EVERYONE!

Thank you to the neighbors who’ve already joined for 2012 and who’ve collectively donated $1,285 already above and beyond their dues strictly for the Parkwood Park Fund! It’s amazing to have that much in Park donations already, and more help is always needed for the Park projects we have coming next year, so please consider making a donation to the Park Fund when you join! Thanks and please read President Karna Candler’s message below. The President’s letter, budget, Park Committee Chair’s letter, and membership form are also downloadable below.

The Parkwood Garden Club (PGC) needs you! We will be 60 years old in 2012 and we need your ideas, enthusiasm, financial support and/or strong backs to continue to be a vibrant neighborhood! PGC began in 1952 as an organization of 54 neighborhood women whose purpose was to grow and arrange flowers and to maintain the Parkwood neighborhood. Over the years, we have evolved into a club of both men and women still dedicated to maintaining the neighborhood, but also to promoting safety and planning family events.

During the month of October, we are asking you to either join the PGC for the first time or to renew your membership of $40. Some of the benefits of membership are: landscape maintenance around the Park and at the intersection of the Parkwoods and East Lake Rd.; a printed directory of your neighbors; social events throughout the year; and, an all volunteer Board that meets regularly to discuss your concerns. During the past year, the Board and its committees contacted elected officials to get pot holes filled, storm drains cleaned, telephone poles removed, road signs erected and an attractive fence put up on the Park at West Ponce de Leon Ave. We continue to address issues related to noise, the health of our stream and our trees and the removal of invasive plants from the Park. Please review our great website, http://parkwoodgardenclub.com, for neighborhood news, crime reports, Parkwood Park updates and minutes of PGC Board meetings. We have come a long way since 1952!

Please help continue the tradition of stewardship of our neighborhood by mailing your application and $40 membership dues to the PGC in the attached envelope. The attached budget will show you how crucial your membership is to cover our basic expenses. If you have any questions or concerns about our neighborhood, please do not hesitate to call me at 404‐ 377‐5275. Thank you in advance for your support of our neighborhood and initiatives.

Warm regards,

Karna Candler
PGC President
