Consent Agenda
The September 10, 2012 Board Meeting Minutes were approved.
The October Financial Report was approved.

Treasurer’s Report – Tom Bell
Tom reported that he had received 14 PGC membership forms/checks so far.  Included with these forms were two contributions for the PGC and 4 contributions for the South Fork Conservancy.  Bryan Bell turned in 3 additional memberships to Tom bringing the total to 17 so far.

President’s Report – Karna Candler
1.  The Park Committee decided to wait until the Park sign is installed to deliver the Park donation letters to the neighbors on West Ponce in hopes that it would improve response.

2.  Sharon LeMaster will be giving neighbors a highlights tour of the Michael C. Carlos Museum on November 8, at 6:15 pm.  After the tour neighbors are welcome to wander around until closing at 7:30.  At that time, an optional lecture will be offered by the museum staff.

3.  There were 10 neighbors who contacted Karna concerning action on the rat problem.  Many people who contacted Karna were concerned about poison being accessible to children, pets and other wildlife. Dekalb County’s approach to rats it to just place poison at points on your property; Karna thought it might be best not to work with the East Lake Neighborhood on this problem because they are working through Dekalb County.  Instead, Karna has contacted the City of Decatur Assistant Mngr. and head of Public Works, but he is out of town until 10/14.  She is hoping we can get them to treat along the sewer lines, below ground.

4.  Karna reported that she had accepted Sheri Kennedy’s resignation from the Board of Directors as of September 29.  Sheri served on the Board for two years and was instrumental in forming the Parkwood Park Committee and writing our By-Laws.  Sheri will continue to serve on the Parkwood Park Committee and the Civic Committee.

Civic Committee – Bryan Bell
Bryan reported that he has removed the PGC website password protection to the minutes, past and present.  He also has removed the PayPal option for donations or membership dues.
Bryan has notified the neighborhood via email, of our new Facebook page.  Currently, we have 37 likes.  Bryan encouraged Board members to post information themselves or send info to him to post.

Membership Committee – Patti and Jim Paulino
Patti reported that the Membership Drive kicked off on October 1.  All membership packets with Parkwood Park information  were delivered to Parkwood neighbors by Jim,Tom, Bryan and Patti.  Reminder emails will be sent each week until the drive concludes on October 31.  After that date, follow up visits or calls to neighbors who haven’t joined will be conducted.  Karna will investigate purchasing reusable yard signs which say “PGC Membership dues due by October 31.”

Katy Mallory and Vica Bourque applied for the permit for the street party on October 21, 3:00 to 7:00pm.  We are on a waiting list for a visit from the fire trucks at the Decatur Fire Station.  Karna sent out an evite from the PGC.  Patti will set up a Membership Table at the party with extra membership forms.  Sheri Kennedy will provide a poster explaining our relationship with the South Fork Conservancy and there will be donation forms for that.  We will also advertise our new Facebook page.

Patti will contact Allison Gilmore about planning our next social event, the “Winter Party.”

Parkwood Park Committee – Steve Elmore
Steve reported that the Parkwood Park sign will be installed on Wednesday, October 10.  There will be an official unveiling during the park workday on Saturday, October 20, with Rebecca Byrd doing the honors since she provided the funds for the sign in memory of her father.

The Druid Hills Tour of Homes is planning to include the Parkwood neighborhood on its April 2013 Tour.  This tour will highlight neighborhood parks also.  The tentative schedule is to feature 3 houses in our neighborhood that border our park.  The park will also be available for tour participants to walk.  Steve said the Park Committee has plans to really spiff up the park for this event.

Steve is currently working on updating the Parkwood Park section of the PGC website.  He has added a native plants page with links to plant lists, and an activity page.  He is also updating the directory of donors, which will change frequently during the membership drive.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15 pm.  The next meeting will be held on November 12, 2012 at Karna’s house, 7:00 pm, 220 Upland Road.
