Neighbors,

Mother Nature has rewarded our postponement of the Parkwood Park Neighborhood work day with a prediction of absolutely beautiful weather this coming Saturday.  The Parkwood Garden Club-Parkwood Park Committee would like you to join us Saturday, January 29 from 9AM until 1PM (or until the last piece is chipped) to work in the park.  We have something for everyone and you can join us at anytime your schedule permits.

1.  We have lots of invasive plants cut and ready to be pulled from the park. Our friend, James from Appleseed Tree Service is coming back with the chipper at 10:30AM and we need plenty of work for him to do!!  Still plan on bringing your loppers!!

2.  Not excited about pulling debris from the park?  We have LOTS of trees that need the English Ivy cut and pulled back from the base. (Pruning shears will be perfect for this job and sturdy shoes to climb through the park)

3.  Still not excited, how about walking along the park and gathering up trash. We have gloves and bags.  This time we will also provide recycle bags for those bottles and cans!

3.  Want to volunteer but will need to join later…? Please come and help us with spiffing up the street and park curb.  Once we pull the plants to the street for the chipper we make a BIG mess and want to leave the park and roads clean.  (We really need folks with gas leaf blowers that can help with clean up late in the day–but brooms and rakes work well too!)

Oh, did I mention we will have delicious chocolate chip cookies, brownies and sugar cookies too?  Of course we will have coolers filled with water, coke and diet coke located along E Parkwood Rd.

Before you start work, please visit our sign up table located at 158 E Parkwood Rd (near the corner of E Parkwood and Parkwood Ln).   Please sign in and grab a safety vest.  Even with the roads closed we are still allowing local traffic and we want everyone to be safe!

Thanks in advance for your participation. Please contact me if any questions, sojpk@bellsouth.net, 404 377 8218.

ATTENTION NEIGHBORS PLEASE REVIEW OUR CURRENT ROAD CLOSING AND DETOUR PLANS

Overview of Road Closings

In order to ensure the safety of our volunteers we are closing roads to through traffic.  During our first work day, caution signs, yellow vests and volunteers in the street did little to slow down traffic through our neighborhood.  Local traffic will be permitted in most cases but may be difficult on E Parkwood as that is where the majority of the work is planned for Saturday.  In no way are we trying to make life difficult for those of you who live on E or W Parkwood Rds.  We will make every accommodation to make sure you can come and go during this time and get to your house and appointments.  If you have any questions, please contact Sheri Kennedy and we can discuss the best way to handle getting in or out of the neighborhood safely.  If you have a problem on Saturday, please call Sheri Kennedy’s cell phone at 770 815 9718.

E Parkwood Rd

Most of the work will be on the E Parkwood side of the park from the cut through to W Ponce de Leon.   As we remove the debris and the chipper makes it way down the street, travel on E Parkwood may be difficult at times.  E Parkwood will be closed starting at 9AM. Local traffic will be allowed in and out of E Parkwood/cut through intersection but just be aware of the debris and chipper truck.  Please keep a lookout for the volunteers as they may be concentrating on the debris and not watching for you.

W Parkwood Rd

We still have some debris we need to remove from the W Parkwood side near W Ponce de Leon.  We will close W Parkwood for a period of time until the debris is removed and chipped and then reopen the road for through traffic. Local traffic will be allowed on W Parkwood entering/exiting at the cut through.  Please keep a look out for volunteers as they may not see you!  Drive slowly!

Parkwood Ln

We will place sawhorses at Upland and Parkwood Ln directing the traffic to join E Parkwood again at E Parkwood and Upland intersection.   Local traffic will be allowed in and out of Parkwood Ln.  We do not plan on having any volunteers on Parkwood Ln but wanted to make sure through traffic didn’t try and take a short cut to E Parkwood.

Details of our current plan:

Impacting E Parkwood Rd, Parkwood Land and Upland Rd Residents:

Intersection of E Parkwood Rd and W Ponce de Leon:  The street will be totally blocked.  Traffic will be routed to Upland Rd which will eventually join E Parkwood at the stop sign.  Residents on Upland may see more traffic on Saturday.   Traffic will be allowed to turn right to the cut through to join W Parkwood or turn left to E Lake.  Local traffic will be allowed to enter E Parkwood Rd at the cut through.  Please be careful and watch for volunteers.

Intersection of Parkwood Lane and Upland:  will be closed with saw horses.  Local traffic will be allowed to enter and exit Parkwood Lane.

Intersection of E Parkwood and the cut through to W Parkwood.   E Parkwood will be closed with saw horses.  Traffic will be allowed in the cut through to go to W Parkwood.  Local traffic will be allowed on E Parkwood but may be difficult at times.  Please be aware of the volunteers as they may NOT be on the lookout for cars.  Drive very slowly!!

Impacting W Parkwood Rd Residents:

Intersection of W Parkwood and W Ponce de Leon:  will be closed for the period of time it takes us to remove the debris and be processed in the chipper.  We will probably close the road after the chipper has arrived.  W Parkwood residents will be able to enter and exit W Parkwood by going to the cut through.

Intersection of W Parkwood and the cut through may be closed while the debris and chipper are on W Parkwood Rd but local traffic will be allowed.  Please be aware of the volunteers and debris.
