Neighbors, a message from Parkwood Park Chair Sheri Kennedy:
West Ponce Area:
DeKalb County Roads and Drainage crew did an amazing job arranging the rip rap, removing construction material, and grading the entire area. The County had a black aluminum fence installed over the culvert to replace the historic brick wall. Thanks to the County’s hard work we are ready to start planting in the fall! We are working on a landscape design using native plants and plan to share at our next neighborhood wide meeting in late September.
Hardwood Mulch:
You may see piles of hardwood mulch around the Park in the next few months. We need the mulch for the paths and in certain areas around the perimeter of the Park to help prevent invasive annuals and perennials. Please let a PPC Committee member know if you see anyone taking our mulch! Hopefully we will have several truckloads for our work day in October.
Monday Work Days:
Thanks to all of you that have helped us on Monday mornings over the past month! Slowly but surely we are continuing to remove invasive plants and get the W Ponce area ready for planting in October. Monday, August 1, we are cleaning up the East Lake traffic circle and traffic triangle. Bring loppers, pruning shears, and rakes. We will have trash bags. For a good time meet us at the traffic circle at 9 a.m.!
East Lake Traffic Circle:
We are so close to our $2100 goal!!! Thanks to your generous donations we have raised $1846 and only need $254 to meet our $2100 goal to landscape the traffic circle this fall. Please visit our website and use the PayPal link to make your donation. Thanks in advance for your help!
Upcoming Events:
Mondays in the Park — Every Monday from 9 – 11 a.m. We usually meet at the south end of the Park at the cut through – bring tools, water, and gloves! Call (770-815-9718) or email me if you plan on coming so we can look for you.
September Neighborhood Wide Meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 27 – we will keep you posted once we have confirmation.
A Neighborhood Wide Work Day is tentatively scheduled for mid-October once the weather cools down. We still have lots of work to do on the Park and will hopefully have mulch to make walking the paths a little easier.
We will also start planting the East Lake Traffic Circle and West Ponce area this fall.
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and support.
